常见猪宝造假手段与鉴别要点
市场常见造假手法包括:用牛黄染色冒充（紫外灯下显蓝绿色荧光）、树脂混合动物血液塑形（热针试验有塑料味）、注入重金属增重（X光透视可见密度异常）。专业鉴别时需注意:真品猪宝研磨时呈金黄色细粉，假货多显暗红色；5%醋酸溶液浸泡后，真品溶液不变色，染色品会褪色；显微观察可见真品特有的胆固醇结晶。近年还出现"养殖猪宝"，通过手术植入异物诱导形成，这类产品生长纹路紊乱，有效成分含量不足天然品的30%。
猪宝又名猪辰砂，是猪胆囊、胆管、肝管等脏器中的结石，外形如同豆粒，外形呈椭圆形，大小不一，外表呈浅黄，或灰黑的，表面粗糙，长着两三厘米长的毛。用手摸上去，毛质地较硬。有一股腥味，用刀将毛切开，发现里面是黄的，有点香，外观呈粉红或棕褐，表面有少许光泽。猪砂是一种名贵紧缺中材，其形成时间较长，而猪的饲养期又很短，所以很少能在猪体内发现，但也有偶尔可见的。动物肠胃中的“宝”，大家比较熟知的一般是牛黄、猪砂、狗宝、马宝、鸡宝、鸭宝、这六样也被誉为中六宝。牛黄，是牛科动物或水牛的胆囊结石；狗宝则为犬科动物的胃结石；猪砂、马宝，则是病马胃肠道中所生结石；鸭宝、鸡宝，也是它们的胃肠道或胆囊结石。不过，目前除了牛黄较常见之外，其它五宝相当难得，具有高的用价值。
